What is it about Rock Stars that causes them to turn to drugs, alcohol, and the abuse that goes with it?

Can they not be happy with the fame, the fact that they have a talent to share with others? I know I am “older” but I just don’t see why it all has to happen in order to be this “famous Rock Star”. Why not just enjoy the fame, and leave the drugs and alcohol alone?

They have to first want to be off drugs, they have to want to be well.
