Question by Mommy Dearest: Is it wrong for me for not wanting to go see my mom at the rest home?
I hate rest homes. they are very depressing. My mom had surgery, and because she lives alone has gone into a rehab facility until she can become mobile again. I had no problem visiting her in the hospital, but rest homes are so sad and they are depressing, I am afraid that by her being in there with what seems to be mostly old people, she too will become depressed and discouraged and possibly not do her therapy to become better, what’s worse, is I don’t want to be there . I I don’t want to see my mother in there.. She doesn’t belong with those people. I would take her to my house, but it is not set up for her, and I live two cities over.
How can I get over my distaste for “rehab facilities” so that I can visit w/ her, also what can I do to encourage her to do her therapy & exercises to make herself independent?
She has insurance, She is looking into seeing if it pays for home health care..

i would rather die then be put into a nursing home. does she have insurance? see if she can get home health aid.

Even though you hate rest homes, you should go there to keep her company. I’m pretty sure she will appreciate it. Try to keep your visits happy and exciting 🙂
