What Do You Think About Shows That Have Single Fathers on Them?

Question by Bryan F: What do you think about shows that have single fathers on them?
Shows like “One on One” or “The Andy Griffith Show”…..There are so many single mothers out there but what about single fathers? Do they get any positive recognition? How about when it comes to daughters like in “One on One”? If he was a real life father with a real life daughter like that, would people think he was a perverted bastard who sexually abuses his daughter?

If you think you cannot find any single fathers in shows and sitcoms out there, here’s a list of shows that have single fathers in them…Mostly because of deceased mothers

Not getting at a thing 🙂 I have no bias. Doesn’t that make answers confusing :P?

The only show I ever watch with a single-father character in it is “Arrested Development”. Michael Bluth is the only sane one in the bunch, lol!

BUT
If you are suggesting that single mothers are always portrayed as angels I would like to remind you of Edina (mother to Saffron) in “Absolutely Fabulous”.

If you can find a single father as loopy as cocaine snorting, Stolychnia guzzling, Christian LaCroix worshipping Edina you win a prize.

edit: I just remembered a ‘biggie’ in the history of single-father sitcoms:

“The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” which ran from 1969-1972 starring Bill Bixby. It tells the story of a widower (Bixby), with a young son who believes his father should marry and manipulates situations surrounding the women his father is interested in.

Talk about your traditional family values… tv was so tame back then. Soon came the likes of “MASH” and “All in the Family” and all that changed. I remember “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” – BORING!

Single fathers are admired though those shows may be somewhat rare. They are usually side characters in movies and episodes. Have never heard of anyone figuring he would be a pervert for being in that situation. What are you getting at here?
